A smart home that runs itself

The challenge

MY HOMES, a premium home builder in Adelaide, wanted smart home to be a standard feature of every new build — but every off-the-shelf path they tried fell short of what their buyers expected.

Stitching together Google Home and Apple HomeKit meant homeowners juggled five separate apps for lighting, curtains, sensors, and switches — a fragmented experience for a home that's meant to feel premium. Packaged brand systems were expensive, unreliable, and required two-day installations per home, hurting build schedules. And shipping homes without smart home at all wasn't a real option either — high-end buyers were already asking for it, and competitors were starting to offer it.

They needed something unified, quick to install, and quiet enough that homeowners wouldn't have to think about it.

What we built

The FIBO Smart Home Solution is an end-to-end Zigbee stack — custom hardware, mobile app, and AI-driven scene automation — built specifically for MY HOMES’ new builds. Each FIBO-equipped home integrates 30+ Zigbee devices (lighting, curtains, sensors, switches, relays) through a single smart gateway and one mobile app.

The AI scene layer handles daily routines automatically — homeowners interact with the app when they want to, but most of the time they don’t have to:

• At sunset, corridor lighting fades to warm white and the living-area curtains close half-way — no taps required.
• When a room is empty for five minutes, the lights switch off and the climate drops to eco mode.
• At night, motion in the hallway while the family is asleep triggers a low safety light and a push notification — not a panic, just a quiet heads-up.

Because the whole stack speaks Zigbee 3.0 over a single gateway, an entire home can be onboarded in hours rather than days — and the homeowner gets one app for everything from the first day they move in.

The hardware

At the centre of every FIBO home is a custom-designed smart gateway — the single hub that bridges 30+ Zigbee devices to the app and the AI scene engine. We took it from PCB to enclosure in-house.

The outcome

Currently in beta with MY HOMES across their Adelaide premium builds — preparing for broader rollout as part of their standard new-home spec.
